Q8 launches new LNG station in Denmark

Q8 Danmark and its partners have opened a new filling station for trucks running on liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Hirtshals, Denmark.

The station owner is a joint venture of Sweden’s OK ekonomisk förening (OK Economic Association) and Kuwait Petroleum International, and it launched Denmark’s first LNG station for trucks in Padborg back in 2022.

Q8 said in a statement it has teamed up with the Hirtshals Port Foundation and Hirtshals Transport Center for the second LNG station.

Moreover, located at the at the Hirtshals Transport Center near the Hirtshals port, this station will enable LNG-powered trucks to be used on par with diesel-powered trucks for transportation throughout Jutland.

Q8 said it has opened the station on February 7, but it did not provide any additional information regarding the facility.

Port of Hirtshals said in a separate statement it strengthens its position as a hub for freight transport in Northern Europe with the opening of the refueling station.

Each year, nearly 150,000 trucks pass through the port, and among the stakeholders in heavy land transport, there has been increasing attention on alternatives to diesel-powered trucks in recent years, the port said.

According to Denmark’s regaco, the firm took part in the project delivered by Spain’s HAM and will also be involved in the service and maintenance of the plant.
