Glenfarne’s Texas LNG awards tugboat contract

Glenfarne Group’s Texas LNG has awarded a tugboat contract to Gulf LNG Tugs of Texas for its planned 4 mtpa LNG export terminal in the port of Brownsville.

Under the long-term deal, Gulf LNG Tugs of Texas, a consortium of Suderman & Young Towing, Bay-Houston Towing, and Moran Towing will build, deliver, and operate tugboats to assist LNG carriers arriving at the LNG facility.

Texas LNG said in a statement the tugboats would be among the “most modern, low-emissions” tugboats, but it did not provide any additional information regarding the contract.

This deal follows Texas LNG’s recent announcement that it secured the final permits for the project and also the signing of a heads of agreement with US natural gas producer EQT for natural gas liquefaction services for 0.5 mtpa of LNG.

Texas LNG also previously selected Swiss engineering group ABB and US energy services firm Baker Hughes to supply equipment for its LNG project.

This represents more than half a billion dollars’ worth of equipment selections for Texas LNG to date, according to the firm.

Texas LNG said it expects to close its project financing “later this year with construction commencing shortly thereafter”.
