Norwegian Car Carriers orders two LNG-powered PCTCs in China

JP Morgan’s Norwegian Car Carriers has placed an order for two LNG dual-fuel PCTCs at CIMC Raffles Shipyard in China.

Oslo-based NOCC said in a social media post on Wendesday it had entered into an agreement with the shipbuilder for the construction of two car carrier newbuildings with an capacity of 7,000 ceu.

NOCC said the vessels are “dual fuel-LNG type and ammonia-ready basis a D-Notation from DNV.”

The company expects to take delivery of the first vessel in 2025 and the second vessel in 2026.

NOCC did not reveal the price tag of the deal.

The firm confirmed reports from the end of 2023 saying that it ordered two LNG-powered PCTCs in China.

Last year, the firm became fully owned by a company advised by JP Morgan Global Alternative’s Global Transportation Group.

According to NOCC’s website, it currently has three PCTCs in its fleet built between 2009 and 2017. Two of the vessels have a capacity of 6,500 ceu and one has a capacity of 6,754 ceu.

As per CIMC Raffles, the shipbuilder in January delivered the first LNG-powered PCTC to owner Zodiac Maritime and charterer BYD.

Zodiac Maritime ordered in total ten LNG-powered PCTCs at the yard.
