EPS orders two LNG-powered tankers in China

Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping has ordered two LNG dual-fuel LR2 oil tankers in China.

EPS and CSSC’s Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) signed a contract for the two 110-000-dwt vessels on Wednesday during a ceremony in Shanghai.

Besides this contract, EPS signed a shipbuilding deal with CSSC’s Beihai Shipbuilding for four 210,000 dwt ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers.

With these new vessels, EPS is expanding its fleet of “green” vessels on water.

The shipping firm led by Idan Ofer did not provide any additional details.

Last year, EPS ordered two LNG-powered LR2 vessels at GSI scheduled for delivery in 2026 and with an option for two more vessels.

The vessels, each said to be worth more than $70 million, will be 250 meters long and 44 meters wide with a service speed of 14.5 knots.

In September 2022, EPS took delivery of its second LNG-powered Suezmax tanker, Starway, from GSI.

EPS and the Chinese yard claim that its sister vessel Greenway, which was delivered in June 2022, is the world’s first LNG-powered Suezmax tanker.

EPS has a large fleet of LNG-powered vessels and it recently completed its 150th LNG bunkering operation.

The company’s fleet of LNG-powered vessels includes containerships, tankers, bulkers, and PCTCs.

According to its website, EPS has 74 dual-fuel vessels in its fleet of 250 managed vessels.
