CNOOC’s Zhejiang LNG terminal gets 600th cargo

CNOOC’s Ningbo LNG import facility in the Chinese province of Zhejiang has received the 600th cargo of liquefied natural gas since the launch of the plant in 2012.

The 2020-built 174,000-cbm, Kool Firn, delivered the milestone cargo of some 70,000 tons of LNG on February 28, according to a statement by CNOOC’s gas and power unit

The LNG carrier, owned by CoolCo and chartered by Shell, brought the cargo from Shell’s QCLNG plant in Australia, where CNOOC owns a stake, its AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows.

CNOOC Gas & Power said the Zhejiang LNG terminal has in total received more than 40 million tons of LNG since 2012, equivalent to more than 60 billion cubic meters of natural gas up to date.

The LNG terminal received its 500th cargo in August 2022.

GIIGNL’s data shows that the facility has a capacity of 6 mtpa. It has six LNG tanks with a total capacity of 960,000 cbm.

CNOOC Gas & Power said it is working on the third expansion phase of the LNG facility and expects the terminal to have a capacity of 10 mtpa in 2025.

In September last year, CNOOC Gas & Power completed the first reloading operation to a large LNG carrier at the LNG import facility.

Prior to this, the terminal became the first facility in Zhejiang province to provide LNG for LNG bunkering vessels.

CNOOC’s 30,000-cbm small-scale vessel, Hai Yang Shi You 301, loaded LNG at the Zhejiang LNG terminal in June and after that it delivered about 9,400 cbm to the LNG-powered containership, CMA CGM Unity.
