MOL’s LNG newbuild begins work for Uniper

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) said it has handed over a newbuild LNG carrier to German energy firm Uniper following delivery at DSME.

The 180,000-cbm LNG Rosenrot started to serve a charter contract with Uniper Global Commodities, a unit of the German firm, on Monday, according to MOL.

In addition, the newbuild is a sister vessel of LNG Schneeweisschen that started serving Uniper in 2018.

Mitsui ordered both of the vessels at South Korea’s DSME in a joint venture with Itochu Corporation.

MOL has an 80 percent share in the newbuild carrier while Itochu owns the rest.

LNG Rosenrot features Winterthur Gas & Diesel’s slow-speed two-stroke engine (X-DF). The vessel can run on natural gas, MGO and heavy fuel oil.

Furhermore, the newbuild is 297.9 meters long and 48 meters wide.
