Keel laid for Disney’s third LNG-fueled cruise ship

Germany’s Meyer Werft has held a keel-laying ceremony for the third and final LNG-powered vessel it is building for Disney Cruise Line, a unit of the US-based Walt Disney Company.

The yard in Papenburg held on Wednesday the traditional keel-laying ceremony of Disney Destiny, Meyer Werft said in a statement.

Meyer Werft and Disney Cruise Line celebrated the start of hull assembly for the new cruise ship by placing the first component in the 504 meters long covered building dock

The keel-laying block is 38.9 meters wide, 14 meters long and 63 meters high.

Meyer Werft says the third ship in the Wish class will have approximately 1,250 cabins and a size of around 144,000 GT.

It expects to deliver Disney Destiny in 2025.

The ship is the sister ship of the Disney Treasure, which is also under construction, and Disney Wish, which launched in 2022.

Meyer Werft delivered the first LNG-powered cruise vessel in this batch, Disney Wish, in June 2022.

Disney Wish arrived at Port Canaveral, Florida from Europe later the same month.

Meyer Werft held a keel-laying ceremony for Disney Treasure in March last year.

Disney Treasury is expected to be delivered this year.
