MOL bids farewell to its oldest LNG carrier

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and its partners in the J3 Consortium have recently sent the 125,835-cbm Senshu Maru on its final voyage to India.

The partners, MOL, K Line and NYK Line, sold the steam-powered old LNG carrier for recycling.

“We bid farewell to our first and the oldest LNG carrier, Senshu Maru, that has served us for 37 years,” MOL said on Thursday via social media.

According to the Japanese shipper, the vessel sailed nearly 2,000,000 nautical miles, equal to over 92 times around the world.

In addition, the vessel completed 733 voyages carrying 9 million tons of LNG under MOL operation, the firm said.

MOL entered the LNG shipping business back in 1983 and the firm has in the meantime become one of the world’s largest LNG carrier operators. Moreover, the company’s fleet also includes FSRUs, bunkering ships, and LNG-powered vessels.
