Wartsila to supply dual-fuel engines for Arctic LNG 2 sextet

Finland’s Wartsila will deliver dual-fuel engines for six new Arc7 ice-class tankers that will serve Novatek’s Arctic LNG 2 project located on the Gydan peninsula.

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering awarded the order to the engine manufacturer in December, Wartsila said on Thursday adding that the contract includes an option for four further ships.

In addition, the order has a price of more than 100 million euros ($121 million), according to Wartsila.

To remind, the Korean yard is building three 172,400-cbm vessels for Japan’s MOL and three for Russia’s Sovcomflot.

The vessels will mainly transport LNG from the Gydan facility to the transshipment terminals in Kamchatka and Murmansk via the Northern Sea Route.

Furthermore, Warstila says each vessel will feature six 46DF dual-fuel engines, plus gas valve units and auxiliaries.

The firm expects deliveries of the equipment to start in August this year.
