Petrobras launching new bidding round for Bahia LNG lease

Brazil’s state-controlled firm Petrobras said it has launched another bid notice to lease out its Bahia LNG terminal after the previous bidding round ended with no valid proposals.

Petrobras said last year that the only bidder in the first process was Golar Power, now Hygo that will soon become part of New Fortress Energy. However, Petrobras disqualified the firm due to a “high degree of integrity risk”.

In addition, Compass Gás e Energia declined to bid and BP Energy requested more time to present a commercial offer, according to Petrobras.

Petrobras said on Monday it published the second bid notice aiming to determine a new deadline for the accreditation of companies that want to lease the regasification terminal in Bahia and associated facilities.

Moreover, the bidding will be restricted to only pre-qualified companies.

The Bahia import terminal features a floating storage and regasification unit but the lease agreement excludes the FSRU.

The terminal’s capacity allows for regasification of up to 700 MMcf/d and includes a 45km pipeline with connections to two delivery points in the city of Salvador.

Furthermore, the lease includes power generation and equipment at an onshore gas-powered power plant, located at the Madre de Deus Waterway Terminal.
