CMA CGM’s Containerships takes delivery of LNG-powered vessel

Hamburg-based Containerships, a unit of France’s CMA CGM, has welcomed another LNG-powered vessel in its fleet following delivery at CSSC’s Guangzhou Wenchong yard in China.

The Chinese yard delivered the 1,380 TEU Containerships Borealis on January 28, according to CMA CGM.

Containerships already uses four such LNG-powered vessels for operations in the Baltic Sea.

The last vessel of the series, Containerships Stellar, should join the fleet at the beginning of June, CMA CGM said.

All of the feeder ships are 170 meters long featuring 1A ice-class notation.

CMA CGM is currently the world’s largest operator and promoter of LNG-powered container vessels.

The shipping group aims to have in total 26 LNG-powered vessels in its fleet by 2022 as it looks to comply with the new IMO standards and slash emissions.

These include the nine world’s largest LNG-powered vessels and the chartered Eastern Pacific Shipping’s containerships, as well as these smaller ships.
