Hyundai Samho awards LNG carrier tank contract to GTT

French LNG tank specialist GTT said Monday it received a new order from South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

Under the new order, GTT will design the tanks of a 174,000 cbm LNG tanker. The newbuild will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system, according to the French firm.

GTT did not reveal any additional information only saying the delivery of the vessel should take place in the second quarter of 2023.

The newbuild in question is probably tied to the order Hyundai Samho’s parent firm KSOE revealed on January 11.

In addition, Russia’s Sovcomflot said after this announcement it signed a long-term charter deal with Total for the 174,000 cbm LNG carrier.

The new vessel will be the latest in a series of Sovcomflot’s new-generation conventional Atlanticmax LNG carriers, with three sister ships already in operation: SCF La Perouse, SCF Barents and SCF Timmerman.

Like its sister vessels, the newbuild will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex cargo containment system but also WinGD slow-speed dual-fuel X-DF engine.
