Saipem raises roof on first Nong Fab LNG tank in Thailand

Italian contractor Saipem has completed lifting the roof of the first LNG tank for PTT’s Nong Fab regasification plant in Thailand.

With its 1.026 tonnes and 92 m in diameter, the lifting of the roof of the first tank is a new track record for Saipem, the firm said in an update.

Saipem claims the 7.5 mtpa Nong Fab regasification plant includes the longest jetty in the world and two of the biggest LNG tanks. The tanks have a capacity of 250,000 cbm, each.

In addition, Saipem is also building a subsea tunnel for the project.

PTT LNG, a unit of the state-owned oil and gas company, awarded the $925 million EPC contract to build the LNG terminal to a joint venture consisting of Saipem and CTCI Corporation back in 2018.

The project is located in Map Ta Phut, Rayong, in the south-east of the country.

Saipem and its partner CTCI should complete the terminal in 2022.

This is the second LNG import terminal for PTT that already operates the Map Ta Phut facility with a capacity of 11 mtpa.
