NNPC to build three LNG stations in Nigeria

State-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp and its partners plan to build three liquefied natural gas (LNG) stations for vehicles in Nigeria.

NNPC said in a statement that the LNG stations would be located Ajaokuta, but it did not provide further details.

The company disclosed this on Thursday last week during the simultaneous commissioning of 12 CNG stations in Abuja and Lagos.

NNPC and its partners would have launched over 100 CNG stations in the next year, according to the firm.

NNPC has a 49 percent stake in Nigeria LNG, the operator of the six-train 22 mtpa facility on Bonny Island.

The company and its partners Shell, TotalEnergies, and Eni are also adding the seventh train to boost the capacity to about 30 mtpa.

Besides Nigeria LNG, NNPC is looking to develop floating LNG projects in Nigeria.

Last month, NNPC has executed a project development agreement (PDA) with Golar LNG for the deployment of an FLNG project offshore the Niger Delta.

NNPC said the PDA also outlines the monetization plan that will utilize about 400-500mmscf/d and produce LNG, LPG, and condensate.

The partners “have both expressed their commitment to achieve a final investment decision (FID) before the end of the fourth quarter of 2024 and first gas by 2027,” NNPC said.
