Shell continues to expand German LNG station network

A unit of energy giant Shell is continuing with the rollout of LNG filling stations in Germany and has launched another retail station for heavy-duty road transport sector in the country.

The new Uffenheim LNG station is the tenth for Shell in Germany as it plans to open further two in early March.

Shell is planning to develop a station network of 35-40 facilities in the country by 2022 as part of an initiative to slash emissions.

In addition to building filling stations, Shell also aims to boost the use of bio-LNG.

In that regard, the firm announced plans to construct a small biomethane liquefaction plant at its Godorf refinery near Cologne.

The plant will have a capacity of about 100,000 tons, supplying Shell’s network of LNG stations by trucks.

Besides Germany, Shell is also developing a network of LNG stations in Europe as part of the BioLNG EuroNet consortium.

The consortium will build a pan-European network of 39 LNG refueling sites in Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Spain.
