New CEO takes helm at Greece’s DESFA

Greece’s gas grid and LNG terminal operator DESFA has named a new chief executive following the departure of Nicola Battilana who led the firm for two years.

Battilana is moving on to a new job position at Italy’s Snam, which has a controlling stake in DESFA via Greece-based joint venture Senfluga Energy Holdings.

The venture has a 66 percent stake in Desfa and consists of majority owner Snam, Spain’s Enagas, Belgium’s Fluxys, and Copelouzos Group’s Damco.

New CEO Maria Rita Galli also comes from Snam but she also led Senfluga.

Prior to joining Snam in 2016 as the head of business development and international asset management, Galli worked for 20 years in various roles at Italy’s Eni, according to a DESFA statement.

In addition to the national gas transmission system, DESFA also operates the LNG import terminal located on the island of Revithoussa, in the gulf of Pachi at Megara, 45 km west of Athens.

The firm has also recently secured a contract from Kuwait’s state-owned KIPIC to operate and maintain the new LNG import terminal in the Al-Zour area.
