NTS delivers MSC’s LNG-powered containership

China’s New Times Shipbuilding has delivered MSC’s LNG dual-fuel containership, MSC Ivory Coast.

NTS hosted the naming and delivery ceremony on November 14.

The shipbuilder said this vessel is MSC’s first LNG dual-fuel containerships with a capacity of 8,100 teu.

NTS said the vessels are 260 meters long, have a beam of 45.6 meters, a depth of 24.7 meters, and a design draught of 12.5 meters.

The shipbuilder said MSC had ordered several types of LNG dual-fuel-powered containerships, but it did not provide further information.

In June 2022, the Switzerland-based shipping giant booked ten of these containerships with a capacity of 8,100 teu and ten 11,400-teu LNG-dual fuel containerships

MSC is building a huge fleet of LNG dual-fuel containerships.

In September, MSC signed a deal to order LNG dual-fuel vessels from China’s Hengli Heavy Industry, a part of Hengli Group.

Prior to that, MSC booked LNG dual-fuel vessels at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard.

Zhoushan Changhong is already building a fleet of LNG-powered vessels for MSC.

Last year, MSC ordered ten LNG dual-fuel 11,500-teu vessels from the shipbuilder and then added ten LNG dual-fuel 11,300-teu vessels.

According to Alphaliner, MSC is the world’s largest liner with 6,206,214 teu and a 20.1 percent share. Denmark’s Maersk is second, and France’s CMA CGM is third.
