The two units of state-owned PetroVietnam signed the LNG supply contract on November 19, according to a statement by PV Gas.
Regasifed LNG will be used for the commissioning of the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants.
PV Gas did not provide further information regarding the shipment.
The company recently released a new tender inviting firms to submit bids for one spot LNG cargo for delivery to its 1 mtpa Thi Vai LNG import terminal.
According to PV Gas, the delivery window for the partial LNG cargo is from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
PV Gas LNG, a unit of PV Gas, sought one LNG cargo of 2,500,000 million British thermal units (MMBtu) of LNG on a delivered ex-ship (DES) basis, and the tender closed on November 12.
PV GAS and PV Power are pioneering in supplying/using imported LNG to produce electricity to serve the country’s economic development, PV Gas said.
Besides investing in large-scale LNG power projects such as the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 plants, PV Power is also converting power plants to use LNG, the company noted.
In November 2021, PV Power broke ground on the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 plants in the southern province of Dong Nai, which are worth about $1.4 billion.
Vietnam’s first LNG power plants will have a total capacity of 1.5 GW.
In September 2024, PV Gas said it plans to start commissioning its Nhon Trach 3 LNG power plant in October.
PV Power recently also signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a unit of Vietnam’s power utility EVN for the LNG power plants.
