K Line adds another LNG-powered car carrier to its fleet

Japan’s shipping giant K Line continues to expand its fleet of LNG dual-fuel vessels.

K Line has welcomed another LNG-powered pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) into its feet.

The vessel in question is the 7,000-ceu Pontus Highway built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu).

K Line said this LNG-powered PCTC is a sister ship of the recently delivered Nereus Highway.

The 199.9-meter long and 38-meter wide ship features the dual-fuel electronic control engine, 7X62DF-2.1 iCER by WinGD, which will reduce methane slip when using LNG fuel.

According to K Line, LNG fuel is expected to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 25 percent to 30 percent and emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), which cause air pollution, by almost 100 percent.

The shipping firm previously said it aims to have about 40 LNG-powered vessels in its fleet by 2030.

Prior to this vessel, K Line took delivery of the 7,000-ceu Poseidon Highway built by Imabari Shipbuilding.

Earlier this year, the firm took delivery of its first capesize bulk carrier equipped with a dual-fuel diesel engine that utilizes LNG as its primary fuel.

Besides LNG-fueled vessels and one LNG bunkering vessel, K Line also has a large fleet of LNG carriers.

K Line continues to make progress with its plans to have 75 or more LNG carriers in its fleet by fiscal 2030.
