Dutch yard Ferus Smit on Monday launched a new LNG-powered tanker, part of the E-class series, for Swedish shipping company Thun Tankers.
Thun Equality is the third in a series of four E-class oil and chemical tankers and they all feature LNG/bio-LNG propulsion.
Goteborg-based Thun Tankers, a part of the Erik Thun Group but also a member of Sweden’s Gothia Tanker Alliance, already operates two such vessels.
Furthermore, Thun Eos and Thun Evolve both trade mostly in Scandinavian waters under long-time charters.
The Swedish firm expects to take deliveries of the third and the fourth vessel in the second and the fourth quarter this year, respectfully.
In addition, the 7999 dwt ice-class 1A ships feature a Wartsila dual-fuel main engine that can operate on LNG or gas oil. The vessels are about 115 meters long and 15.8 meters wide.
