Gasum continues to expand Swedish LNG station network

Gasum said Wednesday it opened an LNG and LBG filling station for heavy-duty vehicles in the southern Swedish town of Malmo.

The station is the first to offer liquefied gas in the Malmo region, but it also marks Gasum’s 16th filling station in Sweden, the Finland-based LNG supplier said.

In addition, the new facility is part of Gasum’s plan to build a network of 50 filling stations in the Nordics by the early 2020s.

Gasum built the new station together with Volvo Truck Center and the facility directly connects to the center’s premises, it said.

Mikael Antonsson, director traffic at Gasum Sweden, said interest in gas-powered trucks continues to grow.

“Thanks to government climate subsidy programs such as Klimatklivet, there are now more than 800 gas-fueled trucks on Swedish roads,” he said.

“Since most of our customers operate throughout Sweden, the station in Malmo is a welcome addition to our existing network of gas filling stations,” he said, adding that the opening has also “triggered interest from a number of logistics companies.”
