Tokyo Gas launches second tank at Hitachi LNG terminal

Japan’s Tokyo Gas said it has completed building the second LNG tank at its Hitachi terminal in Ibaraki prefecture.

The city gas supplier and LNG importer said the 230,000 cbm tank started commercial operations on Wednesday to cater to the increasing gas demand in the region.

The facility now features two 230,000 cbm LNG tanks and one 50,000 cbm LPG tank, along with an LNG/LPG jetty and truck loading capacity with ten lanes.

In addition, Tokyo Gas has completed construction on a high-pressure 92.6 km long gas pipeline called Ibaraki Line. The pipeline connects Hitachi and Kamisu and it started service on March 1.

By connecting a loop of high-pressure gas pipelines and increasing the capacity of LNG tanks in the North Kanto area in addition to the Tokyo area, Tokyo Gas has “achieved improved supply stability and enhanced gas transmission capacity through a mutual backup system of four LNG terminals,” the firm said.

Besides Hitachi, Tokyo Gas operates the Negishi, Sodegaura, and Ohgishima LNG terminals.
