GTT gets LR OK for Mark III’s ammonia-ready notation

French LNG containment giant GTT has secured approval from classification society Lloyd’s Register for the ammonia-ready notation of its Mark III containment system.

GTT said on Wednesday that the approval in principle is for the NH₃-ready notation of its Mark III containment system on LNG-fueled vessels and, more widely, for the tanks of LNG carriers, ethane carriers, and bunkering vessels.

“This innovation enhances the flexibility of LNG-powered vessels, enabling them to adopt or transport a lower-carbon energy alternative over their lifecycle,” GTT said.

“While the use of ammonia as fuel is still to be proven, this approval brings us a step closer to enabling multi-gas conversion on vessels fitted with GTT technologies,” David Colson, commercial VP of GTT, said.

GTT received orders for 72 LNG carriers in 2024, while its revenues rose 50 percent to 641.4 million euros ($711 million) compared to 2023.

As of December 31, 2024, GTT’s order book, excluding LNG as fuel, stood at 332 units.

This includes 306 LNG carriers, 16 ethane carriers, three FSRUs, two FLNGs, and five onshore storage tanks.

The order book for LNG fuel stood at 50 units, all containerships.
