German trio develops new LNG-powered feeder design

Germany’s Technolog Services and partners have developed a new LNG-powered feeder containership design optimized for the Kiel canal linking the Baltic Sea with the North Sea.

Designer Technolog joined forces with ship manager Kontor 17 and broker Continental Chartering for the STREAM 2000 project. All of the three firms are based in Hamburg.

In addition, the project could lead to the deployment of at least four such vessels.

The new 2,000 TEU design would have the capacity to carry up to 900 45 ft containers, according to Technolog.

The 170 meter long vessel would go on LNG but also feature “sustainable equipment to reduce its ecological footprint,” it said.

Technolog has previously developed several LNG-powered containership STREAM designs ranging from 1400 TEU to 5000 TEU, according to its website. All of the designs feature MAN dual-fuel engines.
