The order for two world class ships was signed on Monday, according to MSC Cruises.
This latest order brings MSC Cruises’ world class to six ships – making this its largest class.
“World class 5 and 6 will be some of the most energy-efficient ships in service in the world, significantly outperforming the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI),” the firm said.
MSC Cruises said the ships are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030.
The firm did not provide the price tag of the deal.
According to several reports, the order is worth 3.5 billion euros ($3.94 billion).
Chantiers de l’Atlantique delivered MSC Cruises’ first LNG-powered vessel, MSC World Europa, in October 2022, while MSC World America recently joined the MSC Cruises fleet.
In addition to these two vessels, the steel-cutting ceremony for the company’s third world class took place earlier this year.
MSC Cruises’ current order book includes MSC World Asia, which will be delivered in 2026, and MSC World Atlantic, which will be delivered in 2027.
