PIL takes delivery of new LNG-fueled containership in China

Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL) has added another LNG-powered vessel to its fleet.

Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding, a unit of China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, held a delivery ceremony for the LNG dual-fuel Kota Ocean on May 14, and the vessel left the yard on May 18.

This is the second in a series of four 8,200 teu LNG dual-fuel container vessels PIL ordered from Yangzijiang.

Pil recently took delivery of Kota Oasis, the first vessel in this batch.

These newbuild O class vessels are part of PIL’s long-term plan to optimize its network deployment and renew its fleet for greater operational efficiency.

The vessels are equipped with WinGD’s XDF engines with iCER (intelligent control by exhaust recycling), which reduce methane emissions.

Also, the LNG fuel tanks feature GTT’s Mark III membrane containment tech.

Kota Ocean is the sixth LNG-powered vessel to be delivered to PIL, joining the four 14,000 teu LNG vessels delivered since last year.

In March, PIL took delivery of the fourth LNG-powered vessel, Kota Embun, built by China’s Jiangnan.

PIL has another 12 LNG dual-fuel vessels on order to be delivered over the next few years.

Most recently, PIL ordered five 9,000 teu LNG dual-fuel container ships from China’s Hudong-Zhonghua.

This order boosted the company’s newbuild vessels ordered since 2022 to 18.
