Novatek adds another German LNG station

A unit of Russian producer Novatek has launched another LNG filling station in Germany as a growing number of truck owners opt for the fuel to cut costs and emissions.

Novatek Green Energy opened the station in Elsterheide, according to Germany’s BarMalGas that operates the facility but also other Novatek’s stations in the country.

To remind, Novatek said in December its unit had launched Europe’s first carbon-neutral LNG station for heavy-duty transport in the German port city of Rostock.

The firm currently owns eight LNG fueling stations in Germany and one in Poland, data from Novatek Green Energy’s website, shows.

As part of its long-term strategy, Novatek plans to build a network of LNG fueling stations in Europe at key transport connecting points between Germany and Poland.

Novatek sees “significant growth potential” in this market due to increasingly stringent environmental standards and “affordable” LNG price.

In addition, the German government has last year extended the existing highway toll exemption for LNG-powered trucks until 2023.
