Saipem secures another Qatargas contract

Italian contractor Saipem has won another contract from Qatargas related to the giant Qatari LNG expansion project.

Saipem said on Monday the contract has a price tag of more than $1 billion.

The additional contract entails the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of North Field offshore export trunklines and related onshore tie-in works.

To remind, the firm said in February after winning the first $1.7 billion deal that it had received a letter of intent from Qatar Petroleum’s unit for this contract as well.

The scope of work for this award includes three export trunklines starting from their respective offshore platforms to the Qatargas north and south plants in Ras Laffan LNG complex for a total length of almost 300 km, Saipem said.

Moreover, the work includes associated onshore tie-in works and brownfield activities on existing onshore and offshore facilities.

Saipem said it would execute pipelaying operations with the DE HE and Saipem Endeavour vessels.

The contractor would enhance the overall project execution, comprising both EPCO and EPCL scope of work, by combining relevant planned schedules and project management, it said.

Works will start immediately while Saipem expects to complete the project by mid-2024.

The new award is part of the Qatari LNG expansion project that includes building four “mega trains” with a capacity of 8 million tonnes per year in the Ras Laffan complex.

Furthermore, this first phase of the North Field East project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 to 110 mtpa.

To remind, Qatar Petroleum recently awarded the onshore engineering, procurement and construction contract to a joint venture consisting of Chiyoda and Technip.

The total cost of the North Field East project will reach $28.75 billion, according to QP.
