According to a Gamuda statement, the company has been appointed as the main contractor for the construction of Kaohsiung Port Intercontinental LNG Terminal’s wharf and connecting roads (bridges).
The contract is worth 3.72 billion ringgit (NTD 25.58 billion). This equals about $883 million.
Gamuda said this marks its ninth infrastructure project and third marine project in Taiwan.
Awarded by Taiwan International Ports, Kaohsiung Branch, this build-only contract includes a 2.19 km seawall consisting of 87 caissons, a 1.2 km connecting bridge, a 729 m wharf, and platform structures including an unloading platform, connecting platform, and turning platform.
Scheduled for completion in 2030, a 70:30 unincorporated joint venture between Gamuda and Taiwan’s Dong-Pi Construction will deliver the project.
“Upon completion, this project will ensure a complete and secure process for offshore unloading and onshore receiving of liquefied natural gas (LNG), providing efficient storage and regasification of LNG for delivery to Dalin and surrounding users,” Gamuda said.
Intercontinental LNG terminal
In March, Taiwan’s CPC awarded a contract to compatriot CTCI and a unit of Japan’s IHI to build four 180,000-cbm LNG storage tanks at the planned import terminal in Kaohsiung.
Under the EPC contract, IHI Plant Services Corporation (IPC) and CTCI will build four above-ground, double-domed LNG cryogenic tanks at CPC’s Kaohsiung intercontinental LNG terminal.
Moreover, this deal is worth NT$26.6 billion.
In December 2024, CPC received approval from the environment ministry for the intercontinental LNG terminal, or the seventh terminal.
CPC said the facility will have a capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum.
Taiwan currently imports LNG via two terminals operated by CPC.
CPC operates the Yung-An LNG terminal with a capacity of 10.5 mtpa as well as the Taichung LNG import terminal with a capacity of 6 mtpa. The firm is also expanding its Taichung LNG terminal.
In addition, CPC is also working on the Guantang LNG terminal and the Zhouji LNG terminal.
The Guantang LNG terminal, or Taoyuan LNG terminal, received its commissioning cargo earlier this year.
