WE Tech wins contract for Shell-chartered LNG carriers

Finland’s WE Tech Solutions has won a contract to supply equipment to eighth liquefied natural gas carriers that will go on charter to LNG giant Shell.

The Finnish company says it will start supplying its equipment in February 2021.

Under the deal, WE Tech will supply two sets of direct drive permanent magnet shaft generators.

The deal also includes the delivery of variable speed frequency drives and dedicated power management system.

We Tech did not reveal any additional info regarding the contract.

Norway’s Knutsen, investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Korea Line are the owners behind the order for the LNG tankers.

The deal includes an option for the construction of an additional six vessels.

South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries are building the 174,000-cbm vessels that will feature dual-fuel X-DF propulsion.

The delivery of the vessels is scheduled to start from mid-2022.
