Q8 to launch Denmark’s first LNG truck filling station this year

Q8 Danmark is building what it says is Denmark’s first filling station for trucks running on LNG and expects to launch the facility by the end of this year.

The station owner is a joint venture of Sweden’s OK ekonomisk förening (OK Economic Association) and Kuwait Petroleum International.

Located at Q8’s IDS station in the southern Danish town of Padborg, at the border with Germany, the facility will initially offer LNG for trucks, but future plans also include liquefied biogas, according to Q8.

Padborg is one of Europe’s busiest transport centers, with over 7,000 trucks passing through daily. This would help make the facility a hub for transporting goods between Scandinavia and the rest of Europe, Q8 said.

With this move, Q8 says it offers its customers an alternative to shy away from diesel to a “greener” fuel such as LNG.

In addition, Denmark-based KC LNG, Kosan Crisplant’s division under Makeen Energy, will deliver the station with the help of Dutch small-scale LNG tech firm Liqal, the firm said.

The new station in Padborg makes part of a wider network as another Kuwait Petroleum subsidiary, IDS-Q8 is building a network of LNG filling stations in Europe.
