Australia Pacific LNG, the operator of the 9 mtpa LNG export facility on Curtis Island near Gladstone, has signed a new agreement with CleanCo Queensland to provide additional gas supply to the Swanbank gas-fired power station in 2026.
According to a statement by APLNG, this is the third gas sales agreement between the two companies in as many years.
Ongoing gas supply is essential to support gas-powered generation which underpins reliable
electricity supply in Queensland, the LNG terminal operator noted.
APLNG’s total contribution to the East Coast market for 2026 is 103 PJs.
CEO Dan Clark said this sale is in addition to APLNG’s existing domestic gas contracts and is “yet another demonstration of Australia Pacific LNG’s commitment to producing gas to support the domestic market while meeting our export obligations.”
Australia’s Origin Energy is the upstream operator of APLNG, while Sinopec owns a 25 percent share in the JV.
US energy giant ConocoPhillips has a 47.5 percent share in the APLNG project and operates the 9 mtpa LNG export facility on Curtis Island.
Last year, APLNG shipped its 1000th LNG cargo since it started operations in 2016.
There are two export offtake agreements in place for LNG produced by APLNG.
These include a contract for 7.6 mtpa to JV partner Sinopec, and also 1 mtpa to Japan’s Kansai Electric, both for 20 years.
