Greek shipowner John Angelicoussis dies

Greece’s largest shipowner John Angelicoussis died in Athens on Saturday after suffering a heart attack three weeks ago.

The 72-year-old shipping magnate had been in hospital since March 20.

John Angelicoussis took over as chief executive of Angelicoussis Shipping Group in 1989 after the death of his father.

Daughter Maria Angelicoussis will now succeed her father as CEO of the company.

The shipping group has currently 139 vessels in operation but also a further 15 on order, according to its website.

To remind, John Angelicoussis founded the group’s LNG arm Maran Gas Maritime back in 2003 and ordered the first carrier, Maran Gas Asclepius.

Maran Gas has currently 37 LNG vessels in operation as well as 9 ships on order, the company’s website shows.
