Hudong awards LNG tank gig to GTT

French engineer GTT has won a contract from China’s shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua to design LNG tanks for a recently ordered newbuild.

GTT will design the tanks of Shenzen Gas’ 79,960-cbm LNG carrier.

The mid-scale vessel will feature GTT’s NO96 L03+ membrane containment system, the French firm said in a statement on Tuesday.

To remind, Hudong and Shenzen Gas signed the newbuild contract on March 29. The deal includes an option for one additional vessel.

This move marks the first entry into LNG shipping business for Shenzen Gas.

The new vessel will serve its facility at Yantian port in the city of Shenzhen with an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes, according to Shenzhen Gas. The facility has one LNG jetty and an 80,000 cbm storage tank.

The vessel should join the city gas supplier in January 2023.
