Clean Energy Fuels inks supply deal with Amazon

US LNG and CNG supplier Clean Energy Fuels said Monday it would supply renewable natural gas to compatriot e-commerce giant Amazon.

Clean Energy said in a statement it would supply the negative carbon fuel at its 27 existing fueling stations and another 19 non-exclusive new or upgraded stations. The firm expects to complete these stations by the end of the year.

In addition, the new and existing stations will provide renewable natural gas to Amazon in 15 different states, the firm said.

Clean Energy has also issued a warrant to a unit of Jeff Bezos-led Amazon to purchase up to an aggregate of 53.1 million shares of the company’s common stock for $0.0001 per share.

“If the world is really going to tackle the issue of climate change, all of us need to find solutions that work both environmentally and economically, and that is exactly what this agreement supports,” said Andrew J. Littlefair, CEO and president of Clean Energy.

He added Clean Energy was the first to commercially make RNG available as a vehicle fuel in 2013 and now fuels “tens of thousands of vehicles” across the country every day.

Clean Energy delivers RNG through CNG and LNG to its network of about 540 fueling stations across the US but also Canada.

The firm also owns natural gas liquefication facilities in California and Texas.
