Australian monthly LNG exports hit record high

Australian LNG exports reached record levels in March on the back of higher deliveries to China, according to EnergyQuest.

In March, Australian projects shipped in total 7.2 million tonnes or 105 cargoes, rising from 6 million tonnes or 88 cargoes in February, the consultancy said in its monthly report.

The new monthly record slightly increased from the previous record of 7.1 million tonnes or 104 cargoes reached in December 2019.

March volumes rose as Australia exported more LNG to China. Australian projects dispatched in total 37 cargoes to the world’s second-largest LNG importer in March, after delivering 29 shipments in February but also in March 2020, the consultancy said.

In addition, west coast shipments increased to 5.3 million tonnes or 76 cargoes in March, while east coast LNG shipments remained steady at 2 million tonnes or 28 cargoes, EnergyQuest said.

Moreover, the east coast LNG plants did not ship any spot cargoes in the month under review, while four spot cargoes departed from the west coast facilities, it said.
