Another Great Lakes LNG bunkering op completed

The Great Lakes region located along the Canada-US border hosted another LNG bunkering operation following the first in December last year.

US supplier REV LNG and the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority have again joined forces for the new operation which took place last week in order to fuel the asphalt tanker Damia Desgagnés.

Canada’s Hamilton Port operator said this marked the second-ever Desgagnés LNG bunkering operation while REV added that it was also the first overnight fueling.

Following the operation, the asphalt tanker headed back to Quebec to load up a cargo for the eastern provinces, the port operator said.

“Desgagnés is the only Canadian carrier that runs on LNG in the Great Lakes, while Hamilton is the only place they can refuel west of Montreal,” it said.

The duo did not provide any additional information. REV sourced the fuel for the first operation in December at the Towanda liquefaction and storage facility, located in Pennsylvania. The firm operates the facility in partnership with Pivotal LNG.

Towanda produces about 50,000 gallons of LNG per day and has 180,000 gallons of storage.

REV trucked the LNG from Towanda to the Canadian port to supply the fuel via a truck-to-ship method.
