Spain’s HAM in biomethane move

HAM Group said it has developed what it says is the first biomethane for vehicles project in Spain.

According to the Spanish firm, the new project will allow the company’s customers to “enjoy” biofuel at its service stations.

HAM recently expanded its network to 80 LNG and CNG service stations spread across Spain but also on the main European land transport routes.

The new plant will produce biomethane from waste coming from the agri-food industry and from a cattle farm located in the Farm Mas Jonquer de Vilanant, Girona.

In addition, HAM’s unit FNX Liquid Natural Gas has installed modular upgrading equipment at the biogas plant owned by Apergas.

This equipment purifies the biogas, “which contains 50-60% methane, increasing its quality and obtaining a methane purity higher than 99%,” HAM said.

Following the completion of the process, HAM transports biomethane to its service stations, where it manages “200 Nm3h of biogas, equivalent to 2000 Kg of bio-CNG per day.”

HAM added that biomethane would play an important role in the energy transition as it helps reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.
