TechnipFMC gets OK from Santos to start Barossa subsea work

TechnipFMC said it has received a notice to proceed from Santos to start subsea work on the Barossa project offshore northern Australia.

The Barossa project, located 300 kilometers north of Darwin, will provide feed gas for the Santos-operated 3.7 mtpa Darwin LNG plant in the Northern Territory.

To remind, Santos took a final investment decision on the $3.6 billion development on March 30.

The new contract scope covers the supply of subsea trees and associated control systems, manifolds and wellheads, as well as installation and commissioning support, according to TechnipFMC.

Moreover, the engineer said the “significant” contract, originally announced back in 2019, has a value between $75 million and $250 million.

Santos claims the project represents the biggest investment in Australia’s oil and gas sector since 2012. The firm targets first gas production in the first half of 2025.
