BV grants smart ship notations to Swedish LNG-powered newbuild

Bureau Veritas says it has assigned, for the first time, the complete suite of smart ship class notations to the LNG-powered Fure Vinga.

To remind, China Merchants Jinling shipyard delivered the newbuild, ordered by Sweden’s Gothia Tanker Alliance, earlier this year.

Swedish shipowner Furetank, a member of the alliance, commercially manages the 17,999 dwt FKAB-designed ice-class 1A chemical tanker.

Moreover, Fure Vinga features smart systems for monitoring the ship’s hull condition (H), as well as integrated machinery (M) and navigation (N) systems.

Therefore, the vessel meets all tier 1 requirements included in the Rule Note Additional Service Feature SMART (NR675) issued in January 2021, Paris-based BV said in a statement.

The classification society granted SMART (H1, M1, N1) notations to the newbuild.

BV said it has developed the associated requirements to set a “benchmark for the safe and reliable design and operation of smart systems on board ships, covering both hardware and software.”

The medium-sized tanker has a dual-fuel engine capable of burning both LNG and LBG.

In addition, the 149 meters long vessel features a UPS battery pack for hybrid operation. This helps to lower fuel consumption and prevent blackouts.
