Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL) has added another LNG-powered vessel to its fleet.
Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua handed over PIL’s 13,000-teu LNG dual-fuel container vessel Kota Elan in Shanghai on Monday.
Hudong-Zhonghua said in a statement that the vessel was delivered 233 days ahead of the contractual delivery date and marks the shipbuilder’s third containership delivery this year.
With an overall length of 335 meters, a beam of 51 meters, and a draft of 27.2 meters, the vessel has a maximum container capacity exceeding 13,000 teu and can carry 2,200 reefer containers.
Equipped with an LNG dual-fuel propulsion system, the vessel features Hudong-Zhonghua’s independently developed 12,000-cbm type B LNG fuel tank and fuel gas supply system (FGSS), ensuring a range of over 22,000 nautical miles in gas mode, according to the shipbuilder.
In June this year, Hudong-Zhonghua held a naming ceremony for this vessel and sister ship Kota Elok.
The two vessels are the first in a series of 13 new 13,000-teu ships designed to elevate PIL’s operational capabilities.
They form a key part of the company’s broader fleet renewal strategy, aimed at modernizing its vessels, increasing competitiveness, and growing capacity.
Kota Elok and Kota Elan will work on PIL’s service connecting Asia and South America.
