Marine fuel supplier Peninsula has completed its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation in the Spanish port of Sagunto.
According to a statement by Peninsula, the company supplied LNG fuel with the 12,500-cbm Levante LNG to Thor Highway, a car carrier operated by Japan’s K Line, in the port on September 15.
“This first LNG delivery in Sagunto further enhances the availability of alternative marine fuels within the Valencia port cluster, supporting a wide range of vessel segments operating in the region,” Peninsula said.
Peninsula holds a license to supply LNG as a marine fuel in the ports of Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandía.
With this first LNG bunkering operation in Sagunto, Peninsula further reinforces its position as a “leading” supplier of LNG and bio-LNG in the Mediterranean, the company claims.
In 2024, Peninsula completed its first LNG bunkering operation with Levante LNG in the Spanish port of Algericas.
Prior to this bunkering operation in Algericas, Peninsula started delivering LNG as fuel to vessels with Levante LNG in Gibraltar.
Scale Gas, a unit of Spain’s Enagas, and Peninsula ordered this LNG bunkering ship in June 2021 at South Korea’s Hyundai Mipo.
