DSME nets contract from Eneti for LNG-ready wind turbine installation vessel

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering will build one LNG-ready offshore wind turbine installation vessel for Monaco-based Eneti as part of a contract revealed on Wednesday.

The contract has a price tag of $330 million and DSME will deliver the vessel in the third quarter of 2024, Eneti, previously known as Scorpio Bulkers, said.

In addition, the NYSE-listed company holds an option to construct an additional vessel at the same price, it said.

The vessel is an NG-16000X design by GustoMSC, a unit of National Oilwell Varco, and includes a 2,600 ton leg encircling crane from Dutch firm Huisman Equipment.

Moreover, the vessel will be able to install up to 20 Megawatt turbines at depths of up to 65 meters of water, and it can be adapted to operate on the alternate fuels of LNG or ammonia, Eneti said.

Separately, the company also revealed it is in advanced discussions with several American shipbuilders for the construction of a Jones-Act compliant wind turbine installation vessel.
