China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International has handed over a new LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier to South Korea’s HMM and Hyundai Glovis.
According to a statement by GSI, the second 10,800 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTC built by the shipbuilder in cooperation with CSTC for HMM Shipping was officially named and delivered in Nansha, Guangzhou, on October 12, nearly nine months ahead of the contract delivery date.
Designed by SDARI, Glovis Legend has an overall length of 230 meters, a beam of 40 meters, and a design draft of 10.5 meters.
The vessel has a design speed of 19 knots and features a dual-fuel propulsion system powered by LNG and fuel oil, meeting IMO Tier III emission standards.
Moreover, the PCTS is equipped with 14 garage decks, enabling flexible loading of various vehicle types including electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks, with a maximum capacity of up to 10,800 vehicles per voyage.
“Assuming standard vehicles at 5 meters in length, the vehicles loaded end-to-end would stretch over 50 kilometers—truly a marine giant,” GSI said.
After delivery, Hyundai Glovis will operate the vessel.
Since the start of cooperation in 2022, GSI has delivered four car carriers to HMM.
Among them, the world’s first 10,800 CEU vessel, delivered at the end of April this year, has “ushered in a new era of large-scale automotive shipping globally,” GSI said.
