CMA CGM’s Containerships welcomes sixth LNG-powered vessel

Hamburg-based Containerships, a unit of France’s CMA CGM, has taken delivery of the sixth LNG-powered vessel at CSSC’s Guangzhou Wenchong yard in China.

The Chinese yard delivered the 1,380 TEU Containerships Stellar on May 12, according to CSSC.

Moreover, the vessel is on its way to Europe, its AIS data shows.

Containerships already uses five such LNG-powered feeder ships for operations in the Baltic Sea. Containerships Stellar is the last in this series.

To remind, the fifth vessel, Containerships Borealis, joined the fleet earlier this year.

All of the vessels are 170 meters long featuring 1A ice-class notation and dual-fuel engines.

CMA CGM is currently the world’s largest operator and promoter of LNG-powered container vessels.

The shipping group recently ordered twelve additional LNG-powered vessels in China. Prior to this order, CMA CGM expected to have 32 LNG-powered ships in its fleet by 2022, including these small vessels.
