France’s Elengy still working to restart Montoir LNG terminal after leak

France’s Elengy is still working to resume send-out from its Montoir-de-Bretagne LNG facility following a gas leak earlier this month.

Elengy said in a statement it had detected a leak on the insulating joint in the gas pipeline linking the LNG terminal located on the Atlantic coast to the French transmission grid.

The unit of Engie’s GRTgaz informed the competent authorities, and, for safety reasons, decided to stop send-out into the grid on May 4.

After that, Elengy removed the gas from the pipe and isolated the terminal from the grid. The firm started repair works on May 12.

“The teams remain mobilized and are currently working to restart send-out as soon as possible, in coordination with the competent authorities,” Elengy said.

Commissioned in 1980, the Montoir facility has currently three 120,000 cbm LNG tanks and a regasification capacity of 10 bcm of gas per year.

Furthermore, it also features two jetties capable of accommodating LNG carriers from 65,000 cbm to 267,000 cbm capacity.

Besides this terminal, Elengy also operates the Fos Cavaou and Fos Tonkin facilities.
