Total inks 5-year LNG supply deal with India’s ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel

French energy giant Total will supply LNG to India’s ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel as part of a five-year deal revealed on Thursday.

Under the deal, Total said in a statement it would deliver up to 500,000 tons of LNG per year from its global portfolio until 2026.

In addition, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel will receive the fuel at Petronet LNG’s Dahej terminal or Shell’s Hazira facility on the West Coast of India.

AMNS India, a joint venture consisting of ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, will use the fuel to run its steel and power plants located in Hazira, Gujarat state.

Thomas Maurisse, senior vice president LNG at Total, said the new agreement would cater to the “growing industrial LNG demand in India, a country that aims to more than double the share of natural gas in its energy mix by 2030 compared to today.”

“The supply of LNG will contribute to the reduction of AMNS’s carbon emissions, in line with Total’s ambition to offer its customers energy products that emit less CO2 and to support them in their own low-carbon strategies,” he said.
