Turkey’s Kuzey Star launches second Russian LNG-powered vessel

Turkey’s Kuzey Star Shipyard said it has launched the second LNG-powered RoRo vessel it is building for Russian state-owned maritime infrastructure firm Rosmorport.

The yard floated out the 200 meters long ferry General Chernyakhovsky on Saturday.

To remind, Kuzey Star launched the first vessel named Marshal Rokossovsky in August last year. This LNG-powered vessel started trials in January and should later this year join Rosmorport’s fleet.

Kuzey Star builds the vessels in cooperation with Russia’s Nevsky Shipyard.

Designed by Marine Engineering Bureau, these vessels will be the first LNG-powered RoRo ships in Russia, according to the Turkish yard.

In addition, the Arc4 class dual-fuel ships will run on both LNG and diesel and feature two 300 cbm LNG tanks.

Both of the ships will operate in the Baltic Sea transporting Russian railway trains and other cargoes such as dangerous goods. They will serve the Ust-Luga – port Baltiysk line.
