Flex LNG takes delivery of 13th carrier

Norwegian shipping firm Flex LNG has taken delivery of its thirteenth vessel from South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

The 174,000-cbm Flex Vigilant will serve US LNG exporter Cheniere as part of a three-year charter deal revealed in April.

The LNG carrier features WinGD’s dual-fuel propulsion and GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system. It also has a reliquefaction system with a boil-off rate of 0.085% per day.

With this delivery, Flex has wrapped up its newbuild program and now has thirteen ships on water.

To remind, the LNG shipper has this year signed several charter deals for its fleet.

The most recent charter includes the 2021-built 173,400-cbm Flex Freedom. The vessel will go on charter to an “LNG portfolio player” for a minimum firm period of either three or five years, according to the firm controlled by billionaire John Fredriksen.

Prior to that, Flex chartered the 173,400-cbm Flex Constellation but it also signed the deal for four carriers with a unit of Cheniere, including Flex Vigilant.
