Hyundai Heavy to build four LNG carriers

South Korea’s shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries will build four LNG carriers for an unidentified owner as part of a contract revealed on Tuesday.

HHI said in a filing to the stock exchange the deal has a price tag of about 887.6 billion won ($802 million).

Furthermore, the shipbuilder said it would deliver the LNG carriers to an owner based in Oceania by March 2024.

HHI did not reveal any additional information.

The yard’s previous order for three 174,000-cbm LNG carriers with Hyundai LNG Shipping had a price tag of about $191 million per vessel.

This means the four new carriers could be much larger and have a capacity of up to 200,000 cbm.

Brokers reported after this announcement that Greece’s Dynagas is behind the order.

HHI would build four 200,000-cbm LNG carriers for delivery in 2023 and 2024, according to brokers.
